NEW YORK CHAPTER COMMITTEES

Listed below are our service (or task-based) commmittees. These committee perform functions vital to the operation of the Chapter: publicizing events, publishing our newsletter, maintaing the website, and being active in local advocacy issues. ADVOCACY

If you’re a newshound, reading and discussing issues that impact artists, wanting to do **something** to effect change, but not sure where to begin… we have the starting point for you. Right here on this committee! You can help identify, educate, and advocate local, municipal, statewide and national political issues that are important to NY Chapter members. Bring your passion and awareness to light by building publicity, lobbying, planning and hosting annual Guild-wide public affairs events. We’re looking for a co-chair. Get empowered. Sign up and take the lead!

We discuss and plan events and activities that help meet membership needs, as well as grow the organization! We attend (for free) Chapter evening events and speak with non-members about joining the Guild. We also help coordinate and staff industry trade shows (i.e. Macworld), and develop alliances with other organizations. You’ll reap many benefits by joining this group and helping to grow the Guild – networking opportunities for your own business, free admission to various events and shows, free food and drink, to name just a few

Our quarterly newsletter The Update has become a professional, informative, eye-appealing resource for members and non-members, thanks to the Newsletter Committee. Help us keep up the good, and interesting, work. They meet the third Tuesday of each month and coordinate laying out copy and art submitted by NY Chapter members. You can also help brainstorm ways to market Update to local vendors to get advertisers. If the last Newsletter Committee you were on was in college (or even high school), jump back into the water! We think you’ll have an even better time – less peer pressure and better snacks!!!

We've got some gaps in our committees, and we're wondering if any of you out there have been wanting to dip your toes into board involvement. New Chairs come onto our board all the time, so we promise to help newbies learn the ropes! Here's what we need:

PR/EVENT PLANNING: Chair and Co-Chair needed
Do you love organizing parties and events, thinking of ways to get family, friends, colleagues together around food, drink and inspiring talk? Or do you enjoy thinking up ways to promote your business? This group's just the ticket for you. Help get word out about Guildevents - to radio and print sources, to city schools, art supply stores, fellow organizations. Work with this team on the logistics of event planning - getting food, drink, space, etc. This is rewarding work because you see the direct results of your brainstorms and collaborations!

PUBLIC AFFAIRS: Chair and Co-Chair needed

PICTURE SHOW: THE ILLUSTRATION MARKETPLACE:
Chair and Co-Chair Needed
This is a GREAT opportunity to become involved in learning about the business of illustration and design, event planning, marketing, and selling a valuable product. We are looking for people who welcome the challenge of putting together an event, from concept to execution. We will need volunteers to help coordinate the show space, food, entertainment, sponsorship, the creation of the official Picture Show website, and all the other arrangements vital to the show’s smooth running.
