Practices Committee of the New York Chapter (aka the Grievance Committee)
Since 1990, the Professional Practice Committee of the New York Chapter
has helped Graphic Artists Guild members retrieve over $40,000 in past
due monies from delinquent clients. The Committee, is comprised of Guild
members, each with at least more than 15 years experience as professional
artists in various disciplines. Graphic Artists Guild members who have
tried unsuccessfully to retrieve monies owed, get original artwork returned,
or to have their rights met are welcome to apply to the Committee for
assistance. Only professional business misdemeanors will be considered.
All invoices and/or purchase orders, etc., must be at least 90 days past
due before you approach the Committee. Cases are strengthened if you have
a signed contract that has been breached. Regardless of who you are conducting
business with, always put the terms of agreement in writing.
The Professional Practices Committee meets monthly to review applications and determine next steps. (Applicants do not attend meetings.) Please note: if you have already approached and retained a lawyer to handle your case, the Committee will not accept your case. Also keep in mind that the Committee is not a collection agency, thus if and when your grievance case is accepted, we will contact your client by mail and/or facsimile only. This service is available only to Graphic Artists Guild members in good standing of the New York Chapter (includes tri-state area: New York City area, New Jersey, and Connecticut). New York Chapter Members: for an application and further details, call: 212-791-0330, extension 103 // or email to: ny@gag.org. Leave your name and fax number or mailing address. Allow up to 5 days to receive, if by mail. If you are a Guild member of another chapter, please call the national office for grievance assistance: 212-791-3400, extension 104. Empower yourself by taking action! Make this your mantra for the rest of your art career. Tamara Hall |
