New Members
Welcome to the New York Chapter website. For the those
of you who are new to the Graphic Artists Guild, it might be helpful
to introduce you to our mission statement:
The Graphic Artists Guild promotes and protects the economic interest of its members. It is committed to improving conditions for all creators of graphic art and raising standards for the entire industry. The Guild is a union that embraces creators of graphic art at all levels of skill and expertise who produce works intended for presentation as originals or reproductions. In keeping with our mission, the New York Chapter provides multiple forums for professional graphic artists (and art students) to come together to advance their economic interests. We accomplish this through committees organized around their areas of expertise - illustration, graphic design, children's book illustration, and computer users - which provide networking and support. We're all in the same boat, and membership in the Guild is the most effective way to deal with the perils and pitfalls encountered in our fields. If you take a look at our calendar of events, or if you have a chance to get a copy of our most recent bi-monthly membership newsletter, "Update," you'll see that we offer a diversity of programs and events that can help enhance your career. We also have many committees that further specific causes and plan programs and publications, such as our newsletter, website, educational outreach, recruitment, sponsorship, and PR committees. We have a number of other ways we service our membership: Since 1990, our chapter Grievance Committee has been instrumental in recovering over $40,000 from delinquent clients for Guild members. We host an annual Illustration Marketplace, which attracts approximately 400 to 500 art directors in the tri-state area who are in need of illustrators. We have professional education classes every season and speaker programs almost monthly. And there's so much more. I hope you'll become a member of the Graphic Artists Guild so you can reap all the benefits. If you want to join a committee, please contact either the chairperson of the committee you are most interested in to introduce yourself and get details about an upcoming meeting (contacts are listed in the "contact us" section of website), or contact chapter administrator Tamara Hall , or phone: 212-791-0330x103. Thank you for joining the New York Chapter of the Guild. |
